Support Auburn Teachers

Teachers in Auburn are working hard to connect to each child, to instill a love of learning, and to help give them the critical supports and opportunities they need to learn and grow. Unfortunately, the Auburn School Committee, and many administrators in the district do not support the teachers who are the true experts in the classroom.
A recent survey of Auburn teachers shows:
- 71% don't believe that the educational direction that the district is going in is correct
- 61% don't feel safe in expressing their opinions to district administrators
- 55% would take a job in another district if they could
- 71% of teachers surveyed do not believe district level administration understands and appreciates the work teachers do on a daily basis.
Auburn teachers presented these survey results to the School Committee and outlined their specific concerns that are negatively impacting student learning. Instead of addressing teacher concerns on the spot, Auburn School Committee Chairman, Tom Kendall, spoke to the teachers through the media saying in the Sun Journal that many of the complaints, “were not entirely factual nor based on complete information."
It is time to add your voice to support teachers and show the School Committee and administration is out of touch with their professional staff. The survey numbers prove teachers are concerned with the education of our kids—the future of this community.
If our schools are not good places for our educators then they cannot be good places for our students.
