The Issue
Who else is disappointed in our county’s lack of interest in caring for abandoned, dumped, neglected, malnourished and helpless animals?
In Brooks County, Ga. there is an alarming number of stray animals.
These innocent animals are often dumped by their owners and left to fend for themselves. Maybe they escaped from a chain tied down in the backyard. Or they were a product of overbreeding. They could just be lost and waiting for their owner to find them.
Without proper care and nutrition, they are left starving and susceptible to diseases.
It's time we take action to alleviate their suffering by establishing a shelter for these animals.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) estimates that approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. In Georgia alone, thousands of these animals are euthanized due to overcrowding in shelters or lack of resources.
Hundreds of people in our community have reached out to authorities when a stray, abused, or neglected animal has been found. There is currently no animal control to properly assist these incidents.
By establishing a county animal shelter in Brooks County, we can provide these helpless animals with the care they need while also working towards finding them loving homes. This shelter would not only serve as a safe haven for abandoned pets but also act as an educational center where community members can learn about responsible pet ownership.
We urge the local government officials in Brooks County to recognize this pressing issue and allocate necessary funds towards building an animal shelter that will help protect our community's most vulnerable members.
If you live in Morven, Barney, Quitman, Dixie, Barwick, Pavo or anywhere in Brooks County- consider signing this petition and please spread the word.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our community’s helpless animals.
