We’re overjoyed to share this news—Governor Jerry Brown has signed AB 2125, the Healthy Nail Salon Bill! It’s a huge win for California’s 129,000 nail salon workers and a big step in the fight for nail salon worker health and safety, immigrant rights, and reproductive and environmental justice! It’s also a big win for #AAPIs—we know that Asian immigrant women make up an overwhelming number of nail salon workers. These workers are also disproportionately exposed to cancer-causing and reproductively harmful chemicals in the workplace. This bill promotes the creation of Healthy Nail Salon Recognition Programs—programs that encourage the protection of workers’ health in nail salons. We are forever indebted to the salon workers and owners who fought to make this law a reality. We are so grateful to Governor Brown for signing this bill into law. A big, heartfelt *THANK YOU* to Assemblymember David Chiu, the bill's author, and his staff for being tireless advocates for this community of vulnerable Asian immigrant workers. This year the Collaborative also advanced a labor education bill (AB 2025) signed which would empower the state Board of Barbering and Cosmetology to educate licensees about labor standards (e.g. minimum wage, breaks, worker classification), Another special SHOUT OUT to Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez and her staff who led that effort with us. This year had major progress for the nail salon industry, but there's still more work to be done. We appreciate all of you have joined us in this process by signing this petition, forwarding it, sharing it on your social media, some of you reached out to us on how you could volunteer with us, and some of you tweeted, called or visited your Assemblymember's office when we made those call to actions. We hope you'll continue being an active part of the Collaborative: 1. *Donate* to the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative.
