Tennis Courts at Siena College
Tennis Courts at Siena College
The Issue
Siena College has a great men's and women's tennis team that has been improving in quality and results every year. However, for the last 7+ years or so, the college has lacked the basic infrastructure (good tennis courts) that a D1 team requires to train. The few courts that Siena does have are cracked to the point that athletes could injure themselves playing on them.
Having to travel off-campus every day not only exhausts our resources but also keeps us away from the support we would get from the Siena community. It becomes extremely difficult if the players want to practice extra since there are limited times at which the courts off-campus are available. On a good day, the courts at Siena are always packed with the club players or people just wanting to play tennis. The college providing us with infrastructure not only makes it easier on us in regards to travel but also is efficient and motivating to see Siena care about the sports not as popular as Basketball and Lacrosse. We understand tennis may not have brought as much money and recognition to Siena until now, but the student-athletes on the team put no less effort when it comes to performing at competitions.
Just recently the Women's Tennis team won the MAAC Championships for the first time since 2006, which in itself is proof that there has been an improvement. Siena Tennis attempts to recruit better players to achieve the ultimate goal of winning the MAAC Championships again, however one of the main reasons potential student-athletes refrain from joining the tennis program at Siena is due to the lack of infrastructure. It would be of immense help to have tennis courts provided for us on campus and we are hoping you would be able to help and assist us through this process.
