As a journalist and a conserver, I was moved to tears seeing the sorry state of the animals at Omu Resort. It angers my soul to witness such neglect and suffering. It is apparent that the wildlife within the zoo is not receiving the care and compassion they deserve.

The malnourished animals, including long-tails trying to stretch their hands through the wire fence in desperate search for dirt and grass, and gators that seem like caricatures of themselves, paint a dire picture that no visitor should overlook. These animals are trapped in enclosures that offer insufficient water to cool themselves off under the relentless heat of the sun.

The saddest reality is watching them suffer day by day, a stark contrast to the amusement experienced in other parts of the resort. It is critical that these creatures, with their intrinsic value and rights, are freed from the profit-centered motives that subject them to this appalling treatment.

I urge the relevant authorities and concerned citizens to take immediate action. The zoo section of the resort should be shut down at once. The owners must focus on their amusement park activities, which are their core business, and allow these animals to be released to sanctuaries where they can receive proper care and attention. Moreover, the authorities must hold them accountable for the torment inflicted on these defenseless beings.
