I am a resident of Val Verde in Los Angeles County, and my community is suffering. Our children, including students at Live Oak Elementary, along with residents in Val Verde and Live Oak communities are being exposed to high levels of hydrogen sulfide and benzene. These toxic chemicals are coming from our own backyard - the Chiquita Canyon Landfill.

This landfill has become more than just an eyesore; it's a health hazard. The high levels of hydrogen sulfide and benzene have been linked to numerous health issues such as headaches, dizziness, shortness of breath, eye irritation and even cancer over prolonged exposure (American Cancer Society).

The situation has become unbearable for us living here in these communities. We deserve clean air to breathe in our homes and schools. We need immediate action taken against this landfill that is poisoning our community.

We call upon local government officials to shut down the Chiquita Canyon Landfill immediately before more people fall ill due to its toxic emissions. Please sign this petition if you believe in protecting the health of our children and community members from harmful pollutants.
