Shut Down the 2 Toxic Stone Crushing Sites in Tysnes, Norway
The Issue
My grandfather lived in Tysnes, Norway, where he enjoyed his peaceful and serene life until 2 stone crushing sites became his neighbor. With the inception of these stone crushing sites, his mental health deteriorated further and, I genuinely believe, that it took an emotional toll on him, as he felt his home being vandalized by noise and pollution. He passed away at 70 years young. I feel like his mental health was destroyed when he heard that the stone crushing site, was going to fully start operations soon🙁
This story isn't just about my grandfather. It's about the health and well-being of every resident in Tysnes. Stone crushing sites, like the one in our town, produce dangerous dust that can contain silica, a substance linked to various lung diseases, like silicosis, tuberculosis, and lung cancer (source: World Health Organization). Moreover, the incessant noise from these sites can lead to several health disorders, like sleep disturbance and cognitive impairment, especially in children and the elderly (source: Environmental Protection Agency).
Stone crushing doesn't only affect humans. It also affects our natural environment. Wildlife is displaced due to habitat destruction and water bodies are polluted by the runoff (source: United Nations Environment Program).
Residents of Tysnes should not have to put their health and tranquility at risk. Let's urge the local authorities to shut down this stone crushing site in order to protect our community, our health, and our serenity. Show your support for this cause. Your signature can help us bring back our town's tranquility, restore a clean and safe environment, and honor the memory of beloved community members like my grandfather.
