The Issue

SHUT DOWN T&S ABBATOIR

T&S Abattoir is situated in the sleepy, rural English village of Old Arley in Warwickshire.

In 2023, the abattoir was taken under new ownership, leading to catastrophic consequences for the animals that pass through it, for the local village community and for Muslim consumers.

The constant sounds of distressed animals led to a covert investigation by an animal rights activist which uncovered the most appalling and horrific animal abuse imaginable.

Animals were being mercilessly kicked, smacked, dragged around through blood, wolf noises were played to mock them and there were botched kills, with some still showed signs of life when being dismembered.

The footage was circulated on social media and you can view the (explicit) content here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CKfJ7BWq46A&pp=QACIAgHSBwkJ2ACjtWo3m0M%3D&rco=1

The abattoir is also having a serious detrimental effect on the way of village life.  Local people cannot go for walks without breathing in the overwhelming stench of the large numbers of dead animals now passing through.  Local children can’t play in their gardens.  Villagers are unable to take the route past the abattoir when walking their dogs.  They can’t hang their washing outdoors.  The value of their properties declines along with their mental health.

For many months, animal body parts have been openly stored in large waste containers which visible from the lane. There has been blood spilled on the forecourt and the increase in heavy goods and articulated vehicles has had a major impact on the usually peaceful and attractive village. Lorry loads of live animals, crying and bleating at all hours of the day and night is intolerable and constant.

The meat from these animals is being passed on as halal and local Muslim communities are unwittingly eating it.  Torturing animals, making them witness each other’s slaughter, dismembering whilst alive and subjecting animals to unclean, slow deaths all go against the principles of halal slaughter.  This is an unforgivable deception.

Despite weekly protests outside the abattoir at 10am on Sunday mornings and countless emails to anyone who might be able to bring change, the abattoir remains open.

If you agree that it is an affront to justice that this place remains open, please sign this petition.
