Shut down Retail Rescue Redemption Paws in Ontario

Shut down Retail Rescue Redemption Paws in Ontario
The Issue
Leo died scared and alone after being taken away from the person who loved and cared for him. His death opened my eyes to the serious lack of transparency, accountability, and foster advocacy rights that can exist within parts of the rescue system, including concerns surrounding the euthanasia of healthy or treatable dogs without meaningful independent review or foster involvement. Since 2017, many fosters, adopters, former volunteers, and advocates across Canada have publicly shared similar concerns.
Redemption Paws, a rescue organization based in Ontario, has faced ongoing public scrutiny and criticism regarding allegations of inadequate transparency, questionable welfare practices, insufficient veterinary disclosure, inappropriate placement decisions, and concerns involving the treatment and euthanasia of healthy or treatable animals. Concerns have also been raised regarding the volume of dogs transported from the United States relative to the organization’s available foster capacity, resources, and support systems needed to ensure proper care and welfare standards.
Many individuals have described experiences of emotional distress, lack of access to veterinary information, inadequate communication, and feeling unable to meaningfully advocate for animals in their care. Additional concerns have been raised regarding the use of NDAs, confidentiality agreements, or fear of retaliation that may discourage individuals from publicly discussing their truthful experiences. Transparency, accountability, and freedom of expression are essential in any organization responsible for vulnerable animals and operating within the public trust.
Given the volume and consistency of public concerns raised over multiple years, we call upon the relevant authorities in Ontario, including animal welfare and charitable oversight bodies, to conduct a full, independent, and transparent investigation into Redemption Paws and its operations, including compliance with applicable animal welfare laws, charitable obligations, veterinary disclosure practices, and organizational accountability standards.
If violations, negligence, misconduct, or failures to meet humane and legal standards are substantiated through investigation, we call for appropriate enforcement action up to and including suspension of operations, revocation of charitable status, and permanent closure of the organization where necessary to protect animal welfare and public interest.
We further call for stronger provincial regulations, transparency requirements, foster caregiver protections, and oversight mechanisms for all rescue organizations operating within Ontario and across Canada to help ensure ethical, humane, and accountable rescue practices moving forward.
Please sign this petition to demand transparency, accountability, and stronger protections for vulnerable animals and the people advocating for them.
