Shut Down Orca Performances at SeaWorld San Antonio and Transition to a Sanctuary Model

Shut Down Orca Performances at SeaWorld San Antonio and Transition to a Sanctuary Model
The Issue
Kamea, a young orca held at SeaWorld San Antonio, died at just 11 years old; less than a quarter of the natural life expectancy for orcas in the wild. She is now the 45th orca to die in SeaWorld’s tanks. This is not a coincidence. It is a pattern of systemic neglect and suffering.
Orcas are highly intelligent, social, and emotional animals who swim hundreds of miles a day in the wild. In captivity, they are confined to barren tanks, deprived of natural behavior, and often suffer from physical and psychological illness. Despite public outrage and scientific consensus, SeaWorld continues to hold orcas in captivity and force them to perform.
We, the undersigned, demand the following actions:
End all orca shows and performances at SeaWorld San Antonio.
Retire all remaining orcas to accredited, coastal sanctuaries starting now.
Permanently end all orca breeding and acquisitions.
Ensure independent investigations into the causes of captive orca deaths.
This petition calls on:
The City of San Antonio to review all permits and subsidies granted to SeaWorld.
Texas lawmakers to push for legislation banning the captivity of cetaceans for entertainment.
SeaWorld leadership to transition away from marine mammal exploitation and embrace a sanctuary-based model.
Kamea’s death must not be in vain. It’s time to put compassion before profit.
