I was a prisoner at the Oakland County Jail for a short stint and during my time there, I saw firsthand the corruption, inhumane conditions, state, local & constitutional violations and physical abuse that permeates the institution. Not only did I lose over 30 pounds due to the inadequate and substandard quality of the food, but I also suffered various health issues as a result of an absence of appropriate medical care. For 32 agonizing days, I was compelled to sleep on the cold, hard concrete, a clear indication of the debilitating overcrowding issue in the jail.

Beyond my personal experience, there is an alarming lack of security in the facility. With no cameras to monitor the cell blocks, assaults among inmates are frequent and largely unpunished. Add to that the dire sanitary conditions, epitomized by the presence of rats and insects, and the environment is nothing short of degrading and dangerous.

The issues extend beyond living conditions. There is convincing evidence of systemic corruption, racism, extortion, and conspiracy among officers and officials that manage the facility. 

This petition calls for the urgent shutdown of the Oakland County Jail, urging local government and relevant authorities to investigate these serious allegations.
