The Issue

I’m from Norfolk so I don’t think I can talk to the city of Virginia Beach. But residents of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake and other local city’s. I have the following to say:

if anyone is worried about the drought I took the time to do the research on the data centers that are around us.
I’ll keep it short for now. But we have 11 centers in a 2.5 mile radius using the tidewater Walmart as the radius point. These data centers are protected by NDAs so the water they use doesn’t have to be public record. Most of them claim they use “zero to no water that’s ment for human consumption” but centers like NetTek use same or similar DIRECT cooling systems and their smaller scale systems use at least 15,000 gallons a day of human drinking water. That’s an AT LEAST, however the amount of energy that these centers use indirectly uses 10-12 times the amount of water they use directly. And that’s only assuming that they are on the small scale. On a medium scale they can consume over 3 billion gallons of water A DAY.
The state of Virginia has over 600 data centers in the state, Illinois University addresses that our state needs to regulate these data centers better due to the effects it can have on the citizens and our water ways. They also address the concerns that the pollution from these centers can have on the next generation health due to poor air quality.
not to mention our governor proposed conserving energy and water resources specifically for these exact data centers. Look at where it’s left us.

I’m going to petition that these DATA centers be shut down, if they won’t do it permanently they at least to do it untill I’m dead and in the ground.

the city of Virginia Beach also posted something about the drought, it was like and older looking ad type of art suggesting you should turn down drinking water if you don’t absolutely need it.
