Shut down club La42 to stop TEEN gun violence
The Issue
Petition to Close LA42 and Prioritize the Safety of Our Community I am starting this petition because our community has experienced far too much pain and loss due to gun violence. During the Fourth of July holiday, a shooting at LA42 in Waterbury left multiple people injured and claimed two lives. My heart goes out to the families who lost their loved ones, those who were injured, and everyone who witnessed such a heartbreaking tragedy. No family should have to receive that kind of phone call, and no one should fear for their safety while going out. This issue is deeply personal to me. Around this same time last year, I lost my best friend to gun violence. Having experienced that grief firsthand, I cannot stay silent while more families are forced to endure the same unimaginable pain. Many members of our community have also raised concerns about what happens at this establishment, including allegations that underage individuals have been allowed to enter and consume alcohol. These concerns, combined with the recent tragedy, have left many residents questioning whether enough is being done to protect the public. I understand that closing one business will not end gun violence entirely. However, I believe taking action where serious safety concerns exist is one step toward accountability, justice, and creating a safer community. By signing this petition, we are asking local officials to thoroughly investigate these concerns and take whatever action is appropriate under the law to help protect the people of Waterbury. Together, our voices can show that our community values safety, accountability, and the lives of every person who calls Waterbury home.
