Shrewsbury is one of the few towns in England that is lucky enough to have a feature like the river following through and around the town.
However, this feature that is revelled by some, is a hazard to us all.
For too long the river has been the cause of death, injury and otherwise hardship to a lot of people, whether resident, tourist or visitor.
We, the undersigned, have recognised that the above is caused by the lacsidaisical efforts from the council to provide adequate saftey and prevention methods to stop any and all sorts of incident from occuring in the river.

We are therefore calling on the council to set aside funds and manhours to provide a strategy where by an effective effort is made to reduce incidents, non fatal or fatal, occuring within the River Severn.

We propose the following;

• Adequate and constant lighting along the paths adjacent to the river
• Fence, gates or other protective barriers to be positioned in key areas adjacent the river
• Access to paths adjacent to the river, where possible, to be closed and locked of a night time
• Closed Circuit Television to be installed in key areas adjacent to the river, to monitor paths, enbankment and river
• Increased number of Street Pastors of an evening
• Pubs, bars and clubs to take more responsibility and not serve people that are intoxicated.

We need change, and we need it now. Too many people have needlessly lost their lived that could have otherwise been saved.
