Why this petition matters

Started by Rishika Bajaj

As a 12th standard student, I first got to read about mental health disorders like- Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia when I opted for Psychology as my subject in class 11th. I knew the words like - anxiety and stress but they were never discussed in the schools.

That's when I wondered that why this mental health issue is not popular enough to get public attention?  The answer- This topic is not being taught to the students as it is not a part of the curriculum.

I've always seen that mental health is considered a taboo in our society and there's a stigma attached to it. People are dying because of the pressure they face in their lives. Suicide rate is reaching heights and still there are innumerable people who still have no idea that what these disorders are and how to identify them and what to do if in case you develop one.

I deeply feel that to initiate a conversation and to make people aware about this cause, education is the key. This topic should be taught compulsorily in schools so that we can have open discussions to overcome the issue and to destigmatize it so as to save many lives.

Please sign it and spread the word for a change :)
