Out of 3 bidders for the Memorial project, Reliance Infra did not qualify technically, Shapoorji Pallonji- AFCONS bid Rs 4779 Cr for Phase I alone. L & T have bid Rs 3826 Cr which is 53% higher than PWD's estimate of Rs 2500 Cr. Hence project will be retendered proving our point that the project is unviable. Our aim is to stop the Government continuing to spend money with the pretense of progress, ignoring several cautionary terms in the clearances by other authorities. For example, despite warnings by the Navy that the depths around the proposed site are hazardous the PWD has taken no cognisance. (See Box) The sinking of tug boat "Sonaki" off Raj Bhavan on 18 Apr 2017, reported by TNN and also highlighted by Bhavika in T of I today should be a wake up call, but is being ignored.
