Bhavika Jain has highlighted in Times of India, 15 Apr, the impact on the environment of quarrying 2 million tons of rock, sand, laterite, stone aggregate, etc for reclaiming an Island of 7 ha from the Arabian Sea. Laterite is available only in the southern Sahyadri hills. Quarrying will entail destruction of trees over 5ha of forest land. All avoidable by relocating the Memorial to Cross Island
