Let us honour Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at better location at less cost

The Issue

An Appeal for Relocation of Shiv Smarak to Cross Island in Mumbai Port

with full size statue honouring Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

without wasting money on reclamation, embankments and unusable jetties

The site in the open Sea selected for the Shiv Smarak will be unapproachable for 3 months of monsoons, and 2 months of high winds and waves.

APLI Mumbai appeals to the Government of Maharashtra that Cross Island, a prominent landmark in the Port of Mumbai, be selected as the site for the iconic monument. The iconic monument will be a grand sight overlooking the entire harbour of Mumbai.

Cross Island is 1km from Ferry wharf. Accessible to all citizens, 12 months in the year, 24 x 7. The monument will be visible to all seafarers, all visitors to the Port and passengers on harbour line.

Raise mud bank around island to increase land area from existing 1ha to 2.5 ha. Construction at Cross Island will cost only Rs 100 Cr. Then please install the statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and make it tallest in the world. Reclamation, embankments and rock dredging in Arabian Sea is a waste of money with no utility.

We appeal to you to build facilities for all citizens and tourists, not helipad and facilities for VIPs. Save money for welfare of the people.
