Please show your support for Rudozem Street Dog Rescue (RSDR) and how important it is for RSDR to be granted Shelter registration to government officials so RSDR can continue to send dogs and cats for adoption and therefore rescue more animals from the streets.
The number of dogs on the streets in Rudozem is ever increasing since February when we were stopped from doing adoption trips. The shelter is over crowded with over 250 animals, and we explain that to people but still have dogs tied to the fence or pups dumped outside the yard. Winter is here and we will soon have snow. All we can do for the dogs and cats on the streets is make sure they get fed.

Rudozem Street Dog Rescue (RSDR) has been a registered non-profit foundation since 2009 and have been TRACES registered since 2014. We have adopted thousands of animals since 2009 to the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany and the United States. All of our animals must be transported by TRACES commercial imports/exports which is part of EU law, and is required for any animal with a transfer of ownership being transported from one country to another in the EU. Rescue animals go under this category and any adopted animals must be transported with a TRACES export certificate which is then validated by Authorities.
At the end of January 2017, RSDR applied for TRACES export certificates for adopted animals that were due to leave on an adoption transport in February. The authorities refused to issue certificates due to a Bulgarian law being passed stating that animals rescued from the streets could only be adopted to other countries from a registered shelter.
RSDR have been renovating a building purchased in 2010, for the last 7 years. This building we use to house our animals that are rescued. This building however is not registered as a shelter, even though RSDR is a registered foundation.
This new law is a Bulgarian government law independent of European TRACES transport law. Since then we have been working very hard to get registration so that we can start sending adopted dogs and cats to other countries again. It has been a very stressful time and we have had to deal with complaints that despite all our efforts the shelter might be too close to other buildings for registration to be granted.
Since 2009 when Rudozem Street Dog Rescue first achieved charity status, we have rescued thousands of street dogs and they have been adopted in other countries. We have done everything we can to follow things legally so we do not put the foundation, and our animals at risk.
Our best chance at this current stage is trying to achieve shelter registration and RSDR are fighting to get this, even if we have to relocate and build another shelter, so our animals can be adopted and we can continue to save others from the streets.
