Show Support for Safe Square: Sheffield in Sheffield City Centre
The Issue
Safe Square: Sheffield was initially intended to be a one-month pilot aimed at increasing the safety of people enjoying our vibrant nightlife in Sheffield. The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit has been the driving force behind funding for Safe Square: Sheffield, with support also coming from South Yorkshire Police and the Sheffield City Council Streetscene, Safer Community Partnership and the SheffieldBID - we are extremely grateful for the support from all of the partners of Safe Square, but this was all an extension of the pilot. To be able to access higher funding and more permanent funding you need to show that what you are using it for works. Over these 10 months it has proven to be a treasured sanctuary, offering medical aid, a place to sober up without being sent to the hospital, a charging station for phones, a meetup point if friends get separated, and even a safe haven to report issues or just for a comforting chat when things get a bit much. The overwhelming success of this initiative led to its extension for 10 months. We have proven the concept and met so many of you that have shared your appreciation for a service like this.
Safe Square: Sheffield's next steps is a longer term funding model and this takes time, planning and most importantly support. With your support, we can showcase that Safe Square: Sheffield is valued and wanted by the people of Sheffield. This will help us to find and access funding so that we can provide an invaluable service and contribute significantly to the safety and well-being of our community. Please sign this petition to show your support for the extension of Safe Square: Sheffield.
