The Issue

As a parent of children who attend our beloved school, St. Francis Xavier School in Metairie, LA, we have loved Mr. Mark as their teacher. He was not just an educator but a beacon of kindness and understanding in their lives. It is heartbreaking to see such a dedicated individual, who has brought so much joy and learning to kids, suddenly dismissed. Mr. Mark has been terminated after 22 years from his position, solely based on his sexual orientation, and this is both unjust and deeply concerning.

The Archdiocese's decision to let go of Mr. Mark simply because he is gay not only affects the students who love and respect him but also sends a disheartening message about acceptance within the community. This action does not align with the values of compassion and inclusivity that many members of this community, including myself, hold dear.

We need to request a sit-down meeting with the leadership of St. Francis Xavier Church to discuss and understand the reasons behind this decision. Engaging in an open dialogue is crucial to ensure both transparency and accountability from those who lead the institution responsible for nurturing our children.

Moreover, it is imperative that the archdiocese revisits their morality contracts. The current Pope Leo XIV has advocated for inclusion and understanding, yet the existing terms fall short of these values. Updating these contracts to reflect the Pope's more inclusive perspective would be a step in the right direction towards embracing diversity and love for all, embodying genuine Christian values.

Let's stand together to support Mr. Mark and push for necessary changes. Sign this petition to show that our community values diversity, equal rights, and the wellbeing of those who educate our children. Together, we can make a difference.
