The Oakland Museum of Children's Art is canceling a long-planned exhibit of art by Palestinian children. This exhibit, fully in keeping with the museum's mission and similar to several prior exhibits it has held of children's art made in war-torn environments, was pulled by the board without prior public notice or consultation, citing private communications "from constituents that were concerned about the situation." In our overly-partisan, politicized environment, it's critical that art museums stay focused on their mission and not be distracted by the single-issue factions which are inevitably present in any large community. Please show the museum board, by signing this petition, that the community at large is strongly in favor of showing art by all children, Palestinian or otherwise, and demand that they put the exhibit on as planned.
