The Issue

SHOULD THE CITY OF RENTON COLLECT $4.2+ MILLION IN FINES FROM ION RENTON, LLC?
We Want to Hear From Renton Voters

For years, the derelict ION Renton property has raised concerns regarding property maintenance, security, trash, public safety, and the impact on surrounding businesses and the community.

As of February 2026, ION Renton, LLC had reportedly incurred more than $4.2 million in fines related to the property.

We are asking Renton voters to weigh in!

Do you believe the City of Renton should collect the $4.2+ million in fines incurred by ION Renton, LLC, rather than waive or substantially reduce them AND do you believe the surrounding businesses should be eligible for reimbursement for reasonable, documented expenses they directly incurred as a result of ION Renton allegedly failing to fulfill its legal property-maintenance obligations?  (Receipts and/or other documentation demonstrating the expense and its connection to the property would be required.)

Why We're Asking

For years, the blatant disregard and egregious dereliction of duty of ION Renton, LLC has consumed residents and business owners time. Plus City Staff's  time and resources that could otherwise be directed toward the many other issues affecting Renton residents.

There are at least 5 Notice of Violations that ION has been in receipt of.
The last Violation had fines accruing at a rate of 50k per day.
There have been multiple documented site breaches, fires, and vandalism.

And per the Department of Ecology, ION Renton did not engage them before demo to address the original arsenic/carcinogens identified (petroleum, vinyl chloride and arsenic) or the additional carcinogens found  (Carcinogenic Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon, Polychlorinated Biphenyls/PCS’,  and Naphthalene)in a second study that was conducted.

For these reasons, we believe Renton voters should have an opportunity to vote!
