In our beloved and peaceful neighborhood in Orem, UT, an unsettling trend has begun to take root—short-term rentals. These properties have become a revolving door for large groups and various individuals, disrupting the tranquility and safety we once enjoyed. Living in a charming, older neighborhood means more than just residing in vintage homes; it means forming a community bond where we know and trust those around us. However, with the influx of short-term renters, this bond is increasingly endangered.

I've personally witnessed unfamiliar faces come and go, and with them, unwanted activities that are becoming more prevalent. This constant change of occupants undermines the essence of our close-knit community. It's challenging to feel secure when you don't know who your neighbors are, or if they'll only be sharing your street for a matter of days.

This is about preserving the safety and solidarity of our neighborhood. Research indicates neighborhoods with short-term rentals see a 20% increase in traffic and a rise in noise complaints. Moreover, studies in cities that have tackled this issue show a 15% decrease in crime rates after implementing stricter regulations on short-term rentals.

Orem City currently prohibits short-term rentals in residential zones.  However, the city is actively considering a new ordinance that would allow short term rentals. It is important for residents and property owners to stay informed about ongoing discussions and any potential changes to the current regulation.
