Why this petition matters
Background:
Shoreline Area News recently published an op-ed, presented as a news article, about a racially-motivated attack on a teenage girl in Shoreline. The piece — written by a friend of the perpetrator — was rife with inaccurate, biased statements presented as facts. We are asking that you review the below and stand with our Shoreline BIPOC Youth. The system must change.

Our immediate request is that:
1. Publish an apology for gas-lighting black youth in Shoreline and fueling systemic racism.
2. Specifically apologize to Kaylin and her family as well as the black youth of Shoreline.
3. Shoreline Area News publish Mikayla Weary’s responses.
4. Demonstrate in future publications an Anti-Racist editorial-ship.
Remember: “History is calling the future from the streets of protest. What choice will we make? What world will we create? What will we be? There are only two choices: racist or antiracist.” — Ibram X. Kendi
Anti-Racist Ask: On behalf of S.O.A.R (Shoreline Organized Against Racism), please sign if you would like to see Shoreline Area News take these steps in remorse, reconciliation, and redemption, as listed above, for their abuse of privilege and platform.
