Petition updateShooting in PenfieldFIREARM DISCHARGE MAP UPDATE
Penfield Residents for SafetyNY, United States
Apr 2, 2026

A  new year has begun.   The Town of Penfield now has a new supervisor  and new board members.    At the first legislative meeting of 2026 on January 7, Penfield Residents for Safety requested that the Board resume its discussions to increase the 500 foot rule for firearm discharge.  As it now stands, the Town seems to be satisfied with the changes that have been made.  They have questioned some Penfield residents and have been told by them that they are happy with the changes and do not desire any further action.   In a direct communication to us from new Supervisor Kevin Berry he tells us: “It would be helpful to know how many Penfield residents, especially those living east of the current no firearms discharge area, support expanding the boundary further east or support the other proposed amendments to the Town Code regarding firearms. I would appreciate direct communication from them”.   Because you have signed our original petition, we are once again asking for your support.    This is possibly our last opportunity to install further modifications to the Firearm Discharge Map but most specifically, an increase in the 500 foot rule for firearm discharge.  If you want to see the 500 foot rule increased and other changes, PLEASE  contact  Town Supervisor Kevin Berry, at berry@penfieldny.gov  and voice your  endorsement .   Residents of Rocco  Pines, Cranberry Cove, and Abbington Place are especially encouraged to participate.  Several pieces of property in close proximity to these housing developments were originally designated by the Town to be in the “Firearm Discharge Prohibited” area.  These parcels of land have now been reclassified as located in the areas where firearm discharge is allowed.   All Penfield residents are encouraged to voice their support of our goals.  Our petition currently has 739 signatures but we need more!  If you are aware of others in Penfield who wish to help us, please tell them about the petition and encourage them to sign.  The more signatures we gather, the better our chances are of success!   Our petition can be found at Change.org under Shooting in Penfield.  Although some positive changes have been made since we posted the petition in June 2024, there is still more work to be done.  We have to state again that this may be our last opportunity to make additional changes to the Map, so it is absolutely critical that any resident of Penfield who desires the changes we are working for to contact the town and ask for them!  As always, thank you for your support!
