Help us save Lightburn Hospital. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde wants to close this vital health facility in the east end of Glasgow against the wishes of the local community. Now Shona Robison MSP - Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Health - can overturn this decision. Please help us to show her how much Lightburn Hospital matters.

Local people saved Lightburn once before - in 2011 when Nicola Sturgeon MSP overruled the Health Board’s previous attempt at closure. We believe that the reasons she gave for keeping the hospital open still apply. We need the Scottish Government to listen to us again.

People who use Lightburn talk about how friendly and welcoming it is. The staff make a point of supporting people and their families, and treat patients as much more than their illness. People say that Lightburn has supported families through very dark times with excellent care. The community believes that this must not be lost.

If Lightburn closes, 56 inpatient beds will go and thriving outpatient services for disabled and older people will move to other parts of the city that are very difficult for local people to get to.

The East End community has one of the worst health and social deprivation records in the country. The Board’s own figures demonstrate that the overwhelming majority of those using outpatient services are from the East End, and that most inpatients also come from the local area. It makes no sense to move even more healthcare facilities out of the East End.

The East End has one of the lowest levels of car ownership in the UK. People who live here are heavily dependent on public transport. Closing Lightburn would cause great difficulties and distress for patients and their families, reducing access to essential appointments and making it harder to visit people when they are in hospital.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has failed to invest in services at Lightburn, and has run down the services available. The community of the East End must not be deprived of this vital health facility. Please support the campaign.
