For over six years, I have endured the harrowing ordeal of ritual abuse, accompanied by electronic harassment and sexual violence. My journey has been a solitary one, as I have discovered very few avenues of support within my community. Instead of receiving help and understanding, I have been ostracized, mistreated, discriminated against, misdiagnosed, pursued, and sexually harassed by members of the community, including those in faith-based settings. My experience, and extensive research, have led me to a painful realization: victims of ritual abuse are often left to suffer in silence, even to the point of being persecuted to death.

This petition aims to rally support for legislative reform in Florida, specifically targeting ritual abuse at spiritual businesses and personal practice levels. We urgently need to deepen legal frameworks surrounding occult practices by implementing a legal ban on occult products, services and practices, redefining social standards, and enforcing harsher punishments for ritual abuse and spiritually-related crimes such as rite performance zoning violations, stalking, online harassment, and trafficking.

Data indicates a serious gap in legal protection and enforcement for victims like myself, who are subjected to ritual abuse and exploitation under the guise of spiritual practices. According to the Responding to Ritual Abuse in America report, approximately 70% of survivors have experienced ongoing harassment, indicating a pervasive issue that demands immediate action. Florida, despite its rich cultural and spiritual diversity, has not adopted stringent measures against these abuses, often leaving victims without recourse.

We call on the Florida State Legislature to initiate a thorough review and reform of current laws related to spiritual practices. This includes mandatory bans on all occult-related products, services and practices, the setting up of clear zoning laws to prevent unauthorized rites, and more severe penalties for any acts of harassment, trafficking, and child, dating and domestic abuse originating from these practices.
