Shift to Universal Healthcare and Reform Disability Benefits in Our Country

The Issue

Our current healthcare system, driven largely by privatized insurance, inherently promotes inequality and is inaccessible to many of our citizens. Statistically, as of 2019, 8.5% of people, or 27.5 million, did not have health insurance at any point during the year (source: U.S. Census Bureau). This is a grave social concern that needs attention.

We need an immediate transition to a single-payer, universal healthcare system. This would ensure equitable access to healthcare services for all, irrespective of their income levels.

Furthermore, existing protective measures for consumers dealing with services such as health and life insurance companies are inadequate. We need stronger regulations in place for these companies to ensure services are fairly and reliably provided. Our citizens should not be expected to pay $500k in medical bills if they only make $35k/year.

Our country's healthcare system also needs to stop overlooking the needs of the disabled. We call for comprehensive reform to disability benefits. It is an egregious oversight that the current policy threatens to cut benefits for disabled individuals who attempt to exceed mere survival and contribute to society.

In the wealthiest country in the world, it is our moral and social responsibility to ensure that everyone - irrespective of their economic standing - can enjoy the best possible health. By moving towards universal health care and reforming disability benefits, we can work towards that goal.
