Here in New Hampshire, we are experiencing a surge of the most deadly pandemic in over 100 years. Now more than ever, we rely on our elected officials to serve our communities, informed by data and guided by science, to help us navigate through these challenges. Unfortunately, Republican House leaders are failing to live up to that standard and making the situation worse. Not only is House Speaker Sherman Packard’s Republican leadership team failing to live up to that standard, but they are currently making the situation worse.

Last week, State Representative Ken Weyler (R-Kingston), chair of the House Finance Committee and Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee, questioned the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine to our state’s Health and Human Services Commissioner. In subsequent interviews, instead of choosing science, he chose fiction and doubled down on heinous accusations.

The result? Republican House members voted to hold up $27 million in federal funding meant for critical COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Because of baseless conspiracy theories perpetuated by Republicans in leadership, New Hampshire residents may not be able to get the help they so desperately need. Instead of leading us through this pandemic with strong, data-informed leadership, Rep. Weyler has repeatedly undermined the credibility of New Hampshire state employees working tirelessly to lead us out of the pandemic. 

Rep. Weyler has led Granite Staters down a dark path of conspiracy and misinformation. Urge Speaker Packard to remove him from his leadership roles in the NH House.
