Sheriff, we the residents of Lee County are making a plea with you. You have been such an incredible voice for the victim's of Lee County that cannot speak for themselves. Sadly however, just a few steps from where you sit and defend the animal victim's of your county, your partners at Lee County Domestic Animal Services have a euthanasia rate so high, that it is tarnishing the work you and your Animal Cruelty Task Force are doing.

Just last year, Lee Animal Services took in approximately 9,000 animals and euthanized 1899 of them, whereas Miami-Dade County took in approximately 30,000 animals and is able to rehome approximately 27,600 of them which is only an 8% euthanasia rate versus Lee County's euthanasia rate of 21%. Currently in the state of Florida several sheriff's offices to include Sarasota, Brevard and Polk county are in charge of the day to day operations of their county animal services. 

What we as a community want to see, after seeing the countless success of your already implemented programs, is the Lee County Sheriff's Office assuming the daily operations of Animal Services in an effort to combat the senseless killing of so many more innocent animal victims. Sheriff, you say you care for animals, now is your chance to save thousands more.
