The 287(g) program is harmful federal program that gives local jail officials authority to act as federal deportation agents at local taxpayer expense. This program has been widely criticized by national civil rights advocates for resulting in the racial profiling of Latinos, separating families and violating constitutional rights since its creation 20 years ago. 

The use of this program doesn't represent it's constituents. If we are supposedly a diverse community then should we not end this collaboration? At our own tax payer dollars, we are breaking families. It doesn't make sense as only 4 other counties in Georgia have this program, yet us a highly diverse one continue. Our state representatives are constantly of defense of immigrants but our county officials aren't.   

Every year, the 287(g) programs throughout the country turn over thousands of residents to ICE - tearing apart families and leaving thousands of children without their families. Even if people do not have a direct connection with an illegal immigrant, someone does. It's someones parents, sibling, worker, friend and neighbor.

Have they really represented us? The commissionaires are giving a budget for this program to continue. The sheriff continues to break apart families for minor traffic violations. They're not representing us. 

Let's make an end 287(g) in Whitfield. We must come together an end this immoral program.

287g es un programa que permite que ICE tenga la custodia de personas que tienen infracciones de tránsito simples.

No tiene sentido cuando nuestros representantes estatales están a favor de los inmigrantes. Sin embargo, nuestro sheriff continúa cediendo a este programa. Estamos pagando a este sistema porque la junta de comisionados está utilizando nuestros propios dólares muy gravados para separar familias.

El condado de Whitfield es uno de cada 5 condados en el estado de Georgia que tiene una colaboración directa con ICE. En una comunidad que dice que es por la diversidad, y que la fuerza laboral depende de los hispanos, no tiene sentido que continuemos.

Cada año, los programas 287 (g) en todo el país entregan a miles de residentes a ICE, destruyendo familias y dejando a miles de niños sin sus familias.

Incluso si las personas no tienen una conexión directa con un inmigrante ilegal, alguien sí. Se trata de padres, hermanos, trabajadores, amigos y vecinos.
