A Georgia SWAT team shot and killed an armed homeowner during a September 24 drug raid sparked by the word of a self-confessed meth addict and burglar who had robbed the property the previous day. No drugs were found. David Hooks, a completely innocent man, was murdered in his own home in the middle of the night based off of a bogus no-knock warrant by the very people that were supposed to protect him. As he lay dying from gun shots on the floor his wife and son were handcuffed for several hours. The police did not identify themselves and fired in excess of 16 bullets into the home. David Hooks was hit by four bullets. The last two while he was already on the floor with a shot to his rear shoulder and one to the side of his head which was the fatal shot. 

Many people are responsible for the murder of David Hooks, but Deputy Christopher Brewer is certainly the one that started this chain of events as he asked for the warrant based off of a tip from a meth head that had just robbed the victim David Hooks. Christopher Brewer needs to be suspended immediately.

Purpose of Petition: Suspend Laurens County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher S. Brewer

WHEREAS, on September 24, 2014, Deputy Christopher S. Brewer of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office applied for a search warrant for the property of David Hooks with the intention of conducting a raid; and WHEREAS, said search warrant was based on the alleged statements of an individual who had confessed to committing the felony act of burglary against Mr. David Hooks, in addition to other thefts; and

WHEREAS, said search warrant was executed at approximately 11:00 p.m. the night following the burglary, by members of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office acting in the militarized capacity of a “Special Response Team”; and

WHEREAS, the manner in which said search warrant was executed was inconsistent with the Fourth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States and the State of Georgia in that it violated Mr. David Hooks’ right to be secure against unreasonable searches and seizures; and

WHEREAS, acting under the direction of Deputy Christopher S. Brewer, the deputies executing said search warrant caused the death of Mr. David Hooks by shooting him multiple times as he stood in his own home; and

WHEREAS, the killing of Mr. David Hooks was an outrageous violation of community trust in law enforcement and contrary to the good order, peace, and dignity of Laurens County and the State of Georgia; and

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the undersigned citizens do hereby request that Laurens County Sheriff William A. “Bill” Harrell immediately suspend Deputy Christopher S. Brewer from all law enforcement duties until such time as a full investigation of the events leading to the killing of David Hooks has been completed and referred to the appropriate prosecutorial authorities.
