Great Letter Below from Peter Humphrey says it all: 

Dear Neighbors,

Vote to keep our taxes from going up. Vote to stop the growing bureaucracy in town hall that has already taken over a neighboring building. Vote out the Councilmen who have inadvertently created the need for an enormously costly Homeland Rental Security Department with code enforcement officers and a database of virtually all residents and their home occupancy history. Vote out the Town Board who have now made it a crime for any homeowner to not report every guest that they allow to use their house, paying or non.

Shelter Island doesn’t need laws that will block tourists that are essential to our struggling shops. Shelter Island needs leaders who will tell noise complainers that existing rules will be enforced and who won’t make the long-accepted practice of renting homes illegal. We need leaders who understand the realities of today’s tax and liability laws that are the reason LLC’s are used by our neighbors and refute the delusional paranoia that corporations are taking over our neighborhoods.

Vote for leaders who care about all our neighbors, who won’t mandate ill-conceived rules that drive us apart and who will identify the real problems we face, addressing them with legislation that doesn’t harm law-abiding taxpayers. Vote for Julia Weisenberg, Marcus Kaasik and Gary Gerth.
