Shelter Island, long a bucolic "UnHampton" is turning into a private, gated retirement community.

North Ferry has no early boat for working families to get to Manhattan on time for early meetings. Both North Ferry and South Ferry have been approved for fare increases. A vegetable pizza at Piesano's is now thirty dollars! The town board flat out rejected Nicole Kidman's HBO film shoot on the island, which would have brought tens of thousands of dollars of revenue to the people who live here. With the exception of kind, level headed Gary Gerth, this town board wants NO TOURISM, NO RENTING, and refuses to support island businesses. Solutions to a few of this issues? DO NOT REGISTER FOR THE STR LAW, and VOTE OUT GYM COLLIGAN and PAUL SHEPHERD for new leadership in November that cares about working families and an island supported by tourism (and has been since 1875).
