Shelter Island Residents and Supporters for Short Term Rentals
Oct 29, 2018

DO NOT REGISTER for this terrible STR law. Did you have guests for over a 14 day period this past season? Demand a Refund of your Licensing Fee!

Paying any licensing fees to the town pays to for spyware, and enforcement of your property rights - ridiculous, unethical, wrong, and against everything this beautiful island is about. Shelter Island needs STRs - our local businesses depend on them, and our retirees and disabled residents need the extra income to make ends meet. Seasonal renting is an island tradition that reaches back over 150 years.

Many of the island's wealthy, arrogant elites who viciously oppose renting on the island, are now relaxing on a chaise lounge in Palm Beach Florida, enjoying apres ski in Aspen, or spending the winter at the opera in Manhattan. They know nothing of how the real Shelter Island lives - and many of them hypocritically RENT THEIR HOMES THEMSELVES! We all live in a public town called Shelter Island - it is not their own private gated retirement community with HOA restrictions!

You purchased your home. You own the deed. You have the option of renting your home - it's your constitutional right. 971 signers, and counting, agree! Keep spreading the good word on this issue - Ask an island friend to sign this petition, contribute to our legal fees, post a great comment, like us on FB, #saveshelterisland on twitter...we will not rest until this law is repealed for good. It has no place on Shelter Island.

Have you visited our Supervisor's website? Gary Gerth, Our Supervisor, states his PRO STR POSITION on the very first line of his website: RESCIND STR LEGISLATION!
