Here we are a year later...another fatality. This is unacceptable, as a community, as a state, as a group of people, as business owners, to not take as many necessary preventative actions that are within reason to ensure the safety of ourselves and our guests. Although we are grateful for the speed reduction that was implemented last year in the certain area on Hwy 259 in Hochatown/Broken Bow Lake/Beavers Bend area, that I believe helped...yet, we are still growing at a rapid pace and we are still needing temporary solutions, as well as, long-term permanent solutions. We need the ODOT to stay on top of our unique situation. We ask that you work with us and to take our voice seriously. We are a community that cares! There are many helpful suggestions that are going to take time...we need something right now. Please bring us a temporary caution sign stating to drive with caution, just turn it on during the weekends during the summer and on busy weekends through the fall and winter...that would help. Install some signs that enforce no passing on the right on the shoulder. That is a huge factor. It's legal in Texas and NOT in Oklahoma. Do whatever is necessary that is within reason to help ensure and encourage safe driving in our area. We all need to be mindful in Hochatown as locals, as visitors, as business owners, as employees...we all need to drive with caution.
We are going to keep this #Hochatownhwy259 issue at the top of our priorities. We demand that it be scheduled on the 8-year plan with the ODOT. We are demanding to be heard in a quick manner. We are an extremely unique situation down in the southeast corner of Oklahoma and everyone knows it. All the officials know this. We need to be treated as an independent unique situation that may require new studies to fit our one of a kind situation that needs a new approach. We know that we have to share the road with the large haul trucks, with our guests, with our fellow neighbor, but there is absolutely NO REASON that we shouldn't be implementing preventative measures...etc. If that would've been your little family member that lost his life you would do whatever it takes to make this a safer place to visit and travel through. One random act of driving with caution because they were told by signage, a petition, or a facebook post. That's pretty insignificant compared to losing another life. It is all our responsibility to ensure the safety of others.
Please help keep us safe and a priority. Sign and Share!
