"Drilling in the Arctic could lead to catastrophic oil spills." says Michael Conathan, director of ocean policy at the Center for American Progress. According to a study published in February by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, there is a 75% chance that there will be an oil spill in the Arctic within the next 77 years. The same study states that between 62% and 44% of crude oil that was the result of the spill will neither evaporate nor disperse after 30 days. 

    To me, global warming is a huge issue. Did you know that scientists are predicting that there will be no ice in the Arctic during the summer in 2040? This is a serious problem. Most Arctic animals depend on the snow and cold climate to stay alive! By drilling in the arctic, it is only making things worse. Besides the drilling, the boats are also polluting the relatively clean waters of the Arctic that penguins, polar bears, and other animals depend on to find food.

     Some might ask, why do we care? The answer is that we are part of an ecosystem, and so are the Arctic animals, and climate. If we kill the animals, we will end up killing ourselves too, because we will destroy the delicate balance of our ecosystem. Please sign this petition, and help save the arctic animals!
