ALL shelter animals Killed after TEN DAYS -- that's the proposal in Lincoln County, North Carolina.  Another county animal shelter is imposing Draconian measures to stem complaints about how they run the shelter. In Lincoln County, North Carolina, the county animal shelter was fined thousands of dollars in 2015 because over 200 animals were found dead in their cages. They appeared to be victims of a disease outbreak, as reported by WSOCTV.

Among the myriad problems were the shelter not administering medication or getting a veterinarian to work with them to control the spread of disease. Now, the Lincoln County Animal Shelter Director David Workman proposes that all animals in the shelter be killed after ten days (reported by the Lincoln Times-News). Even healthy, adoptable animals would be given only ten days to be adopted or rescued (or reclaimed) before mandatory euthanization. Of course, the word "euthanize" means to kill to prevent suffering which does not apply when a healthy dog or cat is killed. The proper term for that is just "kill." He claims that the law wouldn't be enforced unless the shelter is at or near capacity. But residents don't agree. They believe that any such law would result in the deaths of more animals. They believe the way to make a shelter better is by helping save more animals, not by killing them quicker.
