Dear Supporters

Bring your banners and whistles and make your presence felt this Wednesday at 1.15pm at the steps of Sheffield Town Hall!!

After 6 months of joint investigations between STAG and Amey, most of the 300 remaining threatened street trees were found to be easily retainable, mostly with alternative highway specifications that had already been costed for in the 2.2 billion PFI Amey contract.  Standard good practice and in accordance with SCC’s existing policy of sustainable stewardship of the urban forest.

So why had these alternative specifications not been used previously in the last 4 years?  Steve Robinson, Head of Highways at the time, insisted that these free alternatives were being used routinely across the city……but they were not.

In other words, the promise that ‘Felling is ALWAYS a last resort’…..was, in fact, a lie.

As we’ve known, all along.

Cllr Dagnall has issued an apology today, on behalf of the Council here: http://bit.ly/2XWfQxO

It’s a start but so many questions remain unanswered….

Sheffield City Council Cabinet will be meeting this Wednesday 17th July 2019 and will receive a report on the joint tree investigations.

Come and show your support for the STAG rally holding SCC to account, at 1.15pm on the steps of the Town Hall (next to the Peace Gardens and opposite Barclays Bank http://bit.ly/2LTJql5

NO MORE LIES!!

As a long-term friend and supporter of STAG, Chris Blantern, so succinctly put it:

"SCC have revealed themselves to be even more incompetent, morally weak and foolish through their blind insistence on being economical with the truth and the care-less assumption that citizens would be stupid enough to believe them. Time, I think, for them to wise up to what curating public space means in this socially sensitised era!"

Here is the Facebook invite for Wednesday’s rally: http://bit.ly/2JBeVyP

Every mature tree felled unnecessarily, is a tragedy. A deep, personal, tragedy.  Let’s make sure Sheffield City Council knows how we feel.

In solidarity
