Amey deal REVEALED by the Yorkshire Post!!!

Deepa Shetty
Sheffield, ENG, United Kingdom

May 17, 2018 — Dear Supporters

Cllr Bryan Lodge has repeatedly stated for 2 years that redacted parts of the secret PFI contract with Amey, were down to 'commercial sensitivity'.

In March however, it was revealed that this disastrous secret deal has a hidden target of 17, 500 street trees and it was in fact THIS figure, that Cllr Lodge was trying so desperately to hide.

Cllr Lodge has since resigned as Cabinet Member for the Environment.

Furthermore, the Yorkshire Post revealed on Wednesday 16th May 2018, that ‘Felling as a last resort’, was never part of this PFI deal. And in a barrage of press releases, more damning evidence of the disinformation & deceit behind SCC’s secret felling plans for Sheffield, have come to light. Thanks and gratitude go to the tireless work of Paul Selby, in collaboration with the Yorkshire Post, for finally shining a light on what we had always suspected. Their persistence has been rewarded!!

All eyes now turn to Cllr Lodge’s successor, Cllr Lewis Dagnall and his willingness to co-create a better future. Will he answer questions like - where is our long overdue Tree Strategy? Does he understand about compliance with current arboricultural good practice and that maintaining canopy cover is key? That sustainable stewardship means the retention of the street tree population, a key component of the urban forest, which is the backbone of green infrastructure? Does he understand that each individual large crown street tree, is worth tens of thousands of ££s to entire communities? Does he understand that Flexi-Pave is the future?? We remain hopeful that STAG can achieve its goals in dialogue with SCC.

As always, THANK YOU protectors & defenders & campaigners for all of your hard work, wherever you are, to help save our trees. It is all seen and appreciated. Nature is, by definition, voiceless and we shall all continue to make sure we speak for her, at every opportunity.
