Sheffield Carbon Neutral by 2030 + a Citizen’s Assembly to inform climate policy

The Issue

We the undersigned:
1) Acknowledge and welcome the findings of the 2018 IPCC report.
2) Ask Sheffield City Council to act with urgency in light of its recent declaration of a climate
emergency.
3) Believe the current date for Sheffield to be carbon neutral, 2050, is too late and is not
consistent with the IPCC 2018 report.
3) Believe that the council’s plan to take 6 months to decide the date by which Sheffield will be
carbon neutral is far too long, and not consistent with a declaration of a climate emergency.
4) Ask that the Labour leadership of Sheffield City Council propose that Sheffield should be
carbon neutral by 2030 at the next full council meeting.
5) Ask the council to make plans for a citizen’s assembly to hear evidence and guide council
climate policy decision-making.
