Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to sign this petition/open letter on behalf of Sheffield’s health and social care community. I really didn’t expect to get so many signatures and comments, it’s really heartening to see.
You’re support hasn’t gone unnoticed- you may have seen the petition mentioned in an article in the Sheffield Telegraph this week -
David Bocking (@WalkRunRideShf) Tweeted: "It would be nice to see Sheffield embracing an evidence-based & progressive way of looking after our health." Why GPs are promoting #activepractice & #activetravelroutes in @theoutdoorcity Ta @JoMaher8 @AndyDouglasGP @shftelegraph https://t.co/fTGWm0GTZh https://t.co/yYx01ts0We
If you want to find other ways to support space for walking and cycling in Sheffield there are lots of ways you can get involved including
joining CycleSheffield look on Facebook for their page
following the South Yorks Active Travel commissioner Dame Sarah Storey & Pete Zanzoterra on Twitter/FB
Contact Roxanne Maritz, active travel coordinator for STH with ideas/concerns. She needs something to take to management to convince them of the support there is for active travel.
There are STH cycle forums on Facebook
If you work in primary care I highly recommend looking at the Greener Practice website https://www.greenerpractice.co.uk/
and of course there is the rather brilliant www.movemoresheffield.com (disclaimer I have a paid role for MM) who are officially non-political and work along side the council/public health. They are 100% behind the active travel movement and have a presence in many important Sheffield forums including the Council, Schools,Sheffield City Trust, Universities and of course health and social care- STH/CCG
big shout out to the quietly political movement of Parkrun - if you haven’t already walked/run or volunteered yourself at either Concord, Endcliffe, Graves, Hillsborough or Manor Fields or with your kids at Junior Parkrun Olympic Legacy Park/Graves/Hillsborough what have you even been doing all this time??
Thanks again for all your support, it means a lot!
