For Sheffield City Council to declare a biodiversity/ecological emergency

The Issue

We want Sheffield City Council to declare a biodiversity/ecological emergency by January 31st, 2021.

Like climate change, it’s vital we tackle biodiversity loss in Sheffield.

We need 2,500 signatures on this petition to trigger a full debate by the Economic and Environmental Wellbeing Scrutiny and Policy Development Committee.

If you pledge your support, it will force them to act now for a healthy future for our children and our green city.

Why is it so important to act now?

The sooner Sheffield City Council declare a biodiversity or ecological emergency, the sooner they can outline a roadmap of action.

This must include targets that:

  • Put nature at the centre of our recovery from the pandemic
  • Reverse declines in wildlife and restore the natural systems on which we all depend
  • Connect people to nature with widespread benefits for citizens and wildlife
  • Stop the use of the pesticide glyphosate on parks, playgrounds and pavements now (and not in 2022 as planned).

Please help us make an impact now.
