Dave Godin is all but unknown in his adopted city of Sheffield, yet his contribution to popular music especially blues and soul music is unparalled in this country. Dave Godin is the father of Northern Soul Music, having introduced the term itself and the music itself to generations of music lovers. He championed royalty rights to the artists who wrote and played this music, whilst artists such as the rolling stones earned millions on the back of these guys.Dave godin coined the phrase " keep the faith" He introduced blues music to a young mick jagger and many other superstars, who came to him sking advice on what they should be listening to.Dave also introduced Tamla Motown to young fans back in the sixties, by persuading Berry Gordy to bring the first Motown revue show to the u.k and introducing the magic of Motown with stars such as Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and all the other legends, all of whom were honoured to call Dave a friend. Everyone, with even a passing interest in Soul and Blues music, should be forever grateful what Dave Godin did for all of us.Dave died a few years ago in relative obscurity in his home city, yet he earned obituries in all the influencial newspapers worlwide, and mourned by many many people in the music industry. All we ask is that the City Council consider a "star" outside the town hall to recognise the impact he had on the music we all love so much....."keep the faith!"
