Cancel The Reindeer 'Exhibition'!

This petition had 969 supporters

From 1-2 December 2016, captive reindeer will be paraded as entertainment at the Leicester Christmas Market being held at the University of Leicester. Along with InterNICHE, the International Network for Humane Education, we're calling on those responsible to reverse the decision immediately.

Peer-reviewed evidence (see here & here) has shown that transport and handling of reindeer is highly stressful for the animals. Reindeer belong in the wild, not at noisy markets. While some children will find contact with the animals interesting, this is not the place for that contact. Why give children the negative lesson that using sentient animals for entertainment is acceptable?

This is a time of year when goodwill should be shown to all living creatures; to knowingly cause harm and distress is unethical. Please support a compassionate Christmas by signing our petition.
