End Unlawful Pre-Trial Detention in York, PA

 

📍 Zamirah Morton is being punished for calling 911. Her mother is now being charged for helping her.

In November 2023, my daughter, Zamirah Morton, called 911 for help when someone refused to get out of her parked car. Instead of receiving protection, she was arrested for DUI — while standing outside the car, engine off, at her own home.

There was no signed affidavit of probable cause. No valid reason for her arrest. And when the case went to court, one of the charges was dismissed for lack of evidence.

But that didn’t stop York County.

They refiled the dismissed charge, upgraded both charges illegally to a higher offense, and revoked her bail while she was in voluntary rehab that the court was aware of! They placed her under Target 25 — a program for repeat offenders — even though she had no prior convictions.

Since then, Zamirah has endured:

Over 100 days/4 months and counting of pretrial incarceration without conviction!
Solitary confinement in another county prison that she was unlawfully held at and placed on suicide watch on a Monday after a phone call on a Friday with her brother where she responded to him asking her what’s up and her responding ‘Bro, I just wanna kill myself in here’. Simply referring to her, wanting to hurry up and get out of there. From being placed in suicide/solitary on Monday, she was pulled straight from there and put in court on a Wednesday-May 14. During this court hearing the assigned judge her case who happens to be the President Judge in York County denied the authorship of her own order that she made on March 27, stating a condition for a consideration of release that Zamirah had been in compliance with. 
Her own private attorney abandoning her weeks before trial and moving the microphone away from her on May 14 as was she was trying to address the court to assert her compliance with the previous order given for her considered release!

A court system that falsified records and denied her access to court and to submit her own motions through her legal POA - her mother!

When she wouldn’t take a guilty plea, maintained her innocence, addressed the court on June 9 stating that she had not been ever formally arraigned, and the waiver of arraignment was defective on its face, the charges against her were - at the least improper, if not illegal - , never having been provided access to her discovery which the court was aware of since April 30, and being push to trial with an attorney she no longer trusted and had tried to remove from her case since April 30, they transferred her out of county — hiding her from her family and community with nothing on her public dockets accurately showing where she was!

The actual ADA even said after she was done speaking on June 9, that this was not her first time bringing this up! And still proceeded to prosecute!

I am her mother. My name is Maria Gulli. When I tried to help my daughter exercise her rights by filing motions on her behalf under a valid, notarized power of attorney — I was charged with 7 criminal charges. York County is now prosecuting me for trying to save my daughter’s life. I have every piece of evidence, every screenshot of each time her docket changed, every order, transcripts, list of violations, list of all the state actors involved under the color of law. 

I’ve never in my life witnessed anything like this and now I am the one living in this horror movie with my daughter and my family!

This all stems from her calling for help! This is all over the fabricated charge! A DUI charge at that!

⚠️ This is not justice. This is retaliation.

⚖️ This is not law. This is abuse of power.

York County Commissioners & Judiciary – to release Zamirah Morton immediately and dismiss all unconstitutional charges.
