The initial city council meeting in December resulted in 6 separate votes regarding the proposed change in rezoning to allow for the building of the high density 312 Unit Apartment Complex on Pflumm between Johnson Drive and 62nd Street. In the end, the council passed a motion to send the proposed plan back to the planning commission to further look at traffic. The Planning Commission met on January 4th and approved the traffic study provided by Vantage Apartments. The Planning Commission recommended sending the proposed rezoning of the land for the Vantage Apartment Complex back to the Shawnee City Council and the council will meet again on January 25th to rezone the land for the apartment complex. It is our understanding that Shawnee City Manager Carol Gonzales is lobbying the council and the mayor to vote for the change in rezoning. We are asking all those that oppose the issue to please attend the City Council Meeting on January 25th at 7:30 at City Hall, located at the old city square, 11110 Johnson Drive.
