I was disappointed when I came back from the Nanuet Street Fair (Nanuet, Rockland County ,NY) yesterday, June 4th with the realization that our petition to stop the tormenting of the Hi-Tor animals by the weekly Boulder's fireworks, is yet to have a positive impact. It is so sad because those poor animals appear to have no advocate at Hi-Tor. A fact which explains why Sean Reilly refuses to budge and switch to noiseless fireworks or another form of entertainment. If there ARE ADVOCATES at Hi-Tor or Elsewhere NOW IS THE TIME TO STEP FORWARD. A couple weeks ago I spoke to Rick, the Director of Hi-Tor and suggested someone take a video of how the fireworks affect those animals. He said no one is there on Saturday (no one to comfort them?) but he will ask a volunteer. My follow-up e-mails went unanswered. I stopped at the Hi-Tor booth at the Fair yesterday and asked if anyone took a video of the animals during the fireworks. One of the volunteers manning the booth said "Why, it doesn't bother them" Though her answer mistaking referred to the animals, it unfortunately is probably true, that the plight of those animals doesn't bother the Hi-Tor volunteers. The other woman there said, (with a smirk). "It's like thunder or lightening. It's NO BIG DEAL" Most of us who own a dog or cat know IT IS A BIG DEAL. We care, it appears neither Rockland Green nor Hi-Tor cares. The Boulders definitely don't care. It is so unfortunate that those poor babies at Hi-Tor are still undergoing this unnecessary extra stress. Rocklanders and people in other areas, are good people. Our wishes to help those animals should matter.
