Any of us that have pets know how terrorized they get when they hear fireworks. You could see the fear in their eyes. They hear a loud noise (a gunshot is about 140 decibels, fireworks are sometimes 190 decibels); the noise causes confusion, anxiety, fear, a blind panic. We may think fireworks are beautiful, but they terrorize and traumatize our pets. There are records of animals dying from the debilitating fear caused by the noise from the fireworks. The noise bothers us, and we know where is coming from. Our pet’s hearing is so much more sensitive than ours:A noise we can hear from 20 feet away, our dogs can hear from 80 feet away. They don’t know where that noise is coming from and feel they are under attack. The first instinct of our dogs, cats and other pets are to run and hide, they may hide under a bed, some even jump into a bathtub. Many dogs and cats, in sheer panic, would find a way to run out of the house. But our pets are loved. They have us to pet them, to talk softly to them, to comfort them But what if the dogs, cats, and other animals, were in small cages, with no placed to run, no place to hide? And what if they were alone, with no person there to comfort them? Besides which, many of these animals had a hard life, they were abused and abandoned. These dogs and cats and other animals are at Hi Tor Animal Shelter in Pomona NY. The Palisades Credit Union Park, home of the NY Boulders baseball team is just a few blocks away from Hi Tor. They advertise fireworks 8 times during the summer. Fireworks my friend hears, he lives 1 mile away. We can't imagine the debilitating terror those poor animals are going through.  However there are alternatives the Boulders can use. There are relatively available no noise or low noise fireworks There are also laser and.other types of shows available.
